Understanding Solar Battery Technologies

Why choose LiFePO4?

Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) is the industry gold standard for solar batteries. Compared to older lead-acid batteries, LiFePO4 batteries offer a significantly higher Depth of Discharge (DoD), often up to 80-90%. This means you can use almost the entire capacity of the battery without damaging its lifespan. They also boast an incredible cycle life (often 6000+ cycles) and are intrinsically safer due to their stable chemical composition.

Capacity vs. Usable Capacity

When sizing a battery for load shedding, it is critical to look at the Usable Capacity (measured in kWh or Wh). While a battery might have a "Nominal Capacity" of 5.12kWh, the integrated Battery Management System (BMS) may restrict the discharge to 80% to prolong the battery's life, giving you roughly 4.1kWh of actual usable power during an outage.
